Ram Raghoba Rane was a Major in the Indian Army who was awarded the Paramvir Chakra. Major Ram Raghoba Rane was born on 26 June 1918 at Chandia, Karwar District, Karnataka. He died on 11 July 1994 at Pune. He hailed from a Konkan Kshatriya Maratha family of Karwar. A statue of him has been erected in Karwar. He was appointed to the Bombay Sappers of the Corps of Engineers on 15 December 1947. He retired from the army as a major in 1968. He did excellent work in the operations of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947-1948. He was awarded the Paramvir Chakra for his bravery and gallantry in the war against Pakistan.
