Manoj Kumar (born 24 July 1937) is a Hindi film actor and Bollywood film producer. He is known for his superhit Hindi films Hariyali Aur Raasta, Wo Kaun Thi?, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Upkar, Patthar Ke Sanam, Neel Kamal, Poorab Aur Paschim, Roti Prado Aur Makan, Shaheed and Kranti. He is known for acting and directing patriotic films, and is nicknamed "Bharatkumar". Manoj Kumar is a recipient of the National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for his contribution to Indian cinema and arts. Manoj Kumar was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2016.
Manoj Kumar was born in Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. His original name is Harikrishna Giri Goswami. His father's name was HL Goswami and mother's name was Krishnakumari Goswami. When Manoj Kumar was 10 years old, his family moved to Delhi during the partition. His family stayed as refugees in Vijay Nagar and Kings Camp and later settled in New Delhi. After graduating from Delhi University's Hindu College, Manoj Kumar decided to enter the film industry.
Manoj Kumar was a fan of Dilip Kumar in his youth, and decided to name himself Manoj Kumar after his character in Dilip Kumar's film "Shabnam". After playing a minor role in Fashion, Manoj Kumar played the lead role in Kaanch Ki Gudiya. Starred opposite Mala Sinha in Hariyali Aur Rasta directed by Vijay Bhatt. With sadhana he wo kaun thi? After starring in, Himalaya Ki God Mein with Vijaybhat and Mala Sinha again. In 1965, he acted in the film 'Shaheed' based on the life of Bhagat Singh. Manoj Kumar was honored with the National Award for the film 'Upakar'. Even today people love to watch Manojkumar's films .
