Jyotsnaben Jyoti Bhatt (Born: March 6, 1940 – Died: July 11, 2020) is known for creating various artistic pieces through pottery.
Jyotsnaben Bhatt was born on March 6, 1940 in Mandvi, Kutch. Sir J. of Mumbai. J. Studied at School of Art for one year. Later, he joined Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara in 1958 to study sculpture under the guidance of Sankho Chaudhary. He got interested in ceramics there. He began studying ceramics in the United States in the mid-1960s at the Brooklyn Museum Art School in the borough of Brooklyn, New York, under the guidance of Jolian Hofstede. He returned to India and settled in Vadodara. In the year 1972, he joined Maharaja Sayajirao University as a Professor in the Ceramic Studio of the Department of Art (Faculty of Fine Arts). He worked there for 40 years and retired in 2002 as Head of Ceramics Department.
Jyotsnaben Bhatt's works are collected worldwide. During his long career he experimented with both stoneware and terracotta. In his ceramic work, he chose matte and satin matte glazes from teal blue in combination with moss green and other earthy colors. He often used alkaline clay, moss and various minerals, combining modern and traditional styles in his works. His works reflect his interest in nature. His numerous works feature cats, dogs, birds, lotus buds, toys and plates.
Jyotsnaben Bhatt was married to Jyoti Bhatt. He lived in Vadodara. Jyotsnaben Bhatt died on July 11, 2020 at Vadodara.
