Chhotubhai Purani (Born: July 13, 1885 - Died: December 22, 1950) was a pioneer of exercise activities in Gujarat, a freedom fighter and a writer. He was born on 13 July 1885 at his village Dakor to Balakrishna Narabheram Purani and Prasannalakshmi. His mother aged him only two years
He died then. Education: He did his primary education at Dakor. Then he went to Jamnagar with his father and there he passed the matriculation examination. College education was done in Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Mumbai. Chotubhai Purani's marriage in AD He met Chanchalakshmi in Nadiad in 1902.
In 1908, he started Gujarat's first gymnasium school 'Shri Lakshminath Gymnasium' in Vadodara. Along with his brother Ambalal Purani, he established Akharas at various places in Gujarat. In 1918, he established the Kelawani Mandal in Bharuch and started the experiment of education through industry for the citizens. He was a staunch advocate of education through play. In 1937, he started Gymnasium Vidyalaya near Kankaria lake in Ahmedabad. At Rajpipla he established the first college with a graduation course through exercises.
He actively participated in the freedom movement of India. Under Gandhiji's influence, he participated in the civil disobedience movement of the 1930s and went to prison. He participated in the personal satyagraha of 1940.
*Literary Creation*: He also created literature along with exercise activities. Created books on 'Ushma', 'Economically Botany', 'Montessori Method of Education', 'Gujarati Textbook', 'Natural Geography', 'Ancient History of India'. Chotubhai Purani died on December 22, 1950 in Mumbai.
