Madhusudan Hiralal Parekh (Born: July 14, 1923 Died: January 28, 2023) (Nicknames: Kimiyagar, Priyadarshi, Vakradarshi) was a well-known Gujarati humorist, critic, editor, translator. He received the Kumar Award in 1972 for his creation.
Madhusudan Parekh was born on July 14, 1923 in Ahmedabad. His native place was Surat. Madhusudan Parekh's father's name was Hiralal Parekh and mother's name was Jadavbehin. Madhusudan Parekh matriculated from Proprietary High School, Ahmedabad in 1939. Studied BA from Mumbai University in 1945 with History-Economics subjects. After studying MA in Gujarati-Sanskrit subjects from Gujarat University in 1952, he did his PhD in 1958 on 'The Contribution of Parsis to Gujarati Novel Literature'. completed
Madhusudan Parekh worked as a teacher in Bharti Vidyalaya, Ahmedabad from 1945 to 1955. From the year 1955 to 1983 h. Ka. Served as Professor of Gujarati in Arts College, Ahmedabad. Retired in 1983. From the year 1961 served as the editor of 'Buddhiprakash'. From 1974 he was the Minister of Gujarat Sahitya Sabha.
Literary work of Madhusudan Parekh : Collections of selected articles from his comic strips published in 'Gujarat Samachar', 'Gujarat Times', 'Shri' etc. And Raiji', 'All of us', 'Vinodayan', 'Pethabhai Purana' etc. have been published. Its laughter is sweet and pleasing.
His comedic one-liners, which can be performed in schools and colleges, are collected in 'Natyakusumo' and 'Priyadarshi's Farhasano'. He has given 'Shakespeare's plays' from Shakespeare's plays. Also notable are the adaptations of Sanskrit plays called 'Sanskrit Literary Plays'.
'Avirbhava', 'Dalpatram', 'Proceedings' of Gujarat Sahitya Sabha, 'Achaman of English Literature' etc. are his critical books. Apart from this, his translated and edited books include 'American Society', 'Henry James' Stories', 'Kanaiyalal Ma. Munshi: Literature Life and Talent', 'Arvachin Gujarati no Rekhadarshan' (A taste of archaic Gujarati literature, 'A hut in the middle of Hindustan' etc.) for teenagers and children include 'Shamal Bhatt's Tales', 'Vaitalapachisi', 'Sinhasanabatrisi'- 1 -2, 'Budhiana Parakramo', 'Adwa's Parakramo', 'Sour and Sweet Talks', 'Moorkharaj', 'Bandit's Daughter', 'Bar Statue Talks' etc. books have been given.
Honors: Madhusudan Parekh has received Ranjitram Suvarna Medal, Kumar Medal, Jyotindra Dave Award, Gujarat Sahitya Akademi's 'Gaurav Purasak' etc.
Madhusudan Parekh died on January 28, 2023 at Ahmedabad.
