Anand Bakshi was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. His ancestors belonged to "Kuri" near Rawalpindi, and originated in Kashmir. His mother Sumitradevi died at the age of 10. After the partition of the country, Anand Bakshi's family emigrated and came to India on 2 October 1947, when he was 17 years old.
On November 15, 1947, he joined the Corps of Signals (Communication Department of the Army) and underwent training at Jabalpur. Later they also worked as 'Telephone Operator'. In his spare time he would write songs and sing to friends.
Anand Bakshi came to 'Bollywood' to make a name for himself as a singer, but he found tremendous success as a lyricist. He got his first chance in 1956, when Bhagwan Dada contracted him to write four songs for Brij Mohan's film "Bhala Aadmi". After that, he made such a success as a lyricist that he worked as a lyricist in more than 300 films in his entire life.
Success: Anand Bakshi gave memorable songs in Hindi films and achieved success. Anand Bakshi wrote the songs of Bobby and Amar Prem, Sholay, Hum, Mohra, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Taal, Mohabbatein, Gadar : Ek Prem Katha, Yaade etc. He also received four Filmfare Awards.
Anand Bakshi died on March 30, 2002 in Mumbai.
