રામલાલ ચુનીલાલ મોદીનો જન્મ ૨૭ જુલાઈ ૧૮૯૦ના રોજ પાટણ ખાતે થયો હતો. તેમના પિતાનું નામ ચુનીલાલ નરભેરામ અને માતાનું નામ જડાવ હતું. ૧૯૦૮માં પાટણ હાઇસ્કૂલમાંથી મેટ્રિક્યુલેશનની પરીક્ષામાં ઉત્તીર્ણ થયા બાદ તેમણે ઊંઝા અને ચાણસ્માની મિડલ સ્કૂલના હેડમાસ્ટર તરીકે કાર્ય કર્યું હતું. ત્યારબાદ તેઓ પાટણ હાઈસ્કૂલમાં શિક્ષક તરીકે જોડાયા હતા, અને મૃત્યુ પર્યંત ત્યાંજ સેવાઓ આપી હતી.
સાહિત્ય સર્જન : રામલાલ ચુનીલાલ મોદીએ કેટલાક ગ્રંથો ઉપરાંત ૧૫૦ જેટલા સંશોધનાત્મક લેખો પ્રકાશિત કરેલા છે. ૧૯૦૯માં 'ગુજરાતી શબ્દકોશ' નામનો તેમનો પ્રથમ લેખ 'બુદ્ધિપ્રકાશ' સામયિકમાં પ્રગટ થયો હતો. ૧૯૧૯માં તેમણે મધ્યકાલીન ગુજરાતી કવિ ભાલણ વિશે શાસ્ત્રીય રીતે લખેલું ચરિત્રાત્મક પુસ્તક 'ભાલણ' પ્રકાશિત કર્યું હતું. ૧૯૨૪માં તેમણે 'કવિ ભાલણકૃત બે નળાખ્યાન' સંશિધન ગ્રંથ પ્રકાશિત કર્યો હતો, જેને માટે તેમને ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય પરિષદ તરફથી ૧૦૧ રૂ.નું પારિતોષિક આપવામાં આવ્યું હતું. 'પાટણ- સિદ્ધપુરનો પ્રવાસ' એ તેમનો પ્રવાસ-વિષયક ગ્રંથ છે. 'કર્ણ સોલંકી' અને 'વાયુપુરાણ' એમના ઈતિહાસ વિષયક ગ્રંથો છે.
રામલાલ ચુનીલાલ મોદી ૧૪ જુલાઈ ૧૯૪૯ના રોજ રાજકોટ ખાતે અવસાન પામ્યા હતા.
Ramlal Chunilal Modi (27 July 1890 – 14 July 1949) was a Gujarati writer, researcher, critic and historian. He is known for his research on medieval Gujarati literature, particularly his research on the medieval poet Bhalan. He was posthumously awarded the Narmad Suvarna Medal for the year 1945-50.
Ramlal Chunilal Modi was born on 27 July 1890 at Patan. His father's name was Chunilal Narabheram and mother's name was Jadav. After passing the matriculation examination from Patan High School in 1908, he worked as the Headmaster of Unjha and Chansmani Middle School. He then joined the Patan High School as a teacher, and served there till his death.
Literary Creator: Ramlal Chunilal Modi has published about 150 research articles in addition to several books. In 1909, his first article titled 'Gujarati Dictionary' was published in the magazine 'Buddhiprakash'. In 1919, he published 'Bhalan', a classically written biographical book on the medieval Gujarati poet Bhalan. In 1924, he published 'Kavi Bhalankrit Be Nalakhyan' Sanshidhan Granth, for which he was given an award of Rs.101 by Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. 'Patan- Siddhapur's Journey' is his travel-themed book. 'Karna Solanki' and 'Vayupurana' are his historical texts.
Ramlal Chunilal Modi died on 14 July 1949 at Rajkot.
