સશસ્ત્ર સ્વતંત્રતા ચળવળના સભ્ય હતા, જેણે ૧૯૩૦ માં ચિત્તગોંગ (ચટગાંવ) શસ્ત્રાગાર
પર દરોડો પાડયો હતો. બાદમાં તેઓ ભારતીય કમ્યુનિસ્ટ પાર્ટીમાં સામેલ થયા અને ઈ.સ.
૧૯૪૩ માં ભારતની કમ્યુનિસ્ટ પાર્ટીના મહાસચિવ પૂરણચંદ જોશી સાથે લગ્ન કર્યા.
કલ્પના દત્તનો જન્મ તા. ૨૭ જુલાઈ ૧૯૧૩ના રોજ બ્રિટિશ ભારતના બંગાળ પ્રાંતના ચિત્તાગોંગ જિલ્લાના એક ગામ શ્રીપુર ખાતે થયો હતો. (આ ગામ હવે બૉલખાલી ઉપજિલ્લા, બાંગ્લાદેશમાં આવેલું છે). ચિત્તાગોંગથી ઈ.સ. ૧૯૨૯ માં મેટ્રિકની પરીક્ષા પાસ કર્યા પછી તેઓ કોલકાતા ગયા અને વિજ્ઞાનમાં સ્નાતકના અભ્યાસ માટે બેથુન કોલેજમાં જોડાયા.
૧૮ એપ્રિલ ૧૯૩૦ ના રોજ ચિત્તાગોંગ શસ્ત્રાગાર પર દરોડા પાડવામાં આવ્યા હતા. કલ્પના દત્ત મે ૧૯૩૧ માં સૂર્ય સેનની આગેવાની હેઠળ સશસ્ત્ર ક્રાંતિકારી જૂથ "ભારતીય રિપબ્લિકન આર્મી, ચટગ્રામ શાખા" માં જોડાયા. સપ્ટેમ્બર, ૧૯૩૧ માં સૂર્ય સેને કલ્પના દત્તને પ્રિતિલતા વાહેદારની સાથે ચિતાગોંગમાં યુરોપિયન ક્લબ પર હુમલો કરવાની જવાબદારી સોંપી. પરંતુ આ હુમલાના એક અઠવાડિયા પહેલા તે વિસ્તારની જાસૂસી કાર્યવાહી કરતી વખતે તેણીની ધરપકડ કરવામાં આવી હતી. જામીન પર છૂટ્યા બાદ તે ભૂગર્ભમાં ગઈ હતી. ૧૭ ફેબ્રુઆરી ૧૯૩૩ ના દિવસે પોલીસે તેમના છુપાવવાના સ્થાન ગેરીલા ગામને ઘેરી લીધું હતું, અને સૂર્ય સેનની ધરપકડ કરવામાં આવી હતી પરંતુ કલ્પના ત્યાંથી છટકી ગયાં. છેવટે ૧૯મી મે ૧૯૩૩ ના દિવસે કલ્પના દત્તની ધરપકડ કરવામાં આવી. ચિત્તાગોંગ આર્મરી રેઇડ કેસની બીજી પૂરક સુનવણીમાં કલ્પનાને આજીવન હદપારની સજા કરવામાં આવી. તેણીને ૧૯૩૯ માં મુક્ત કરવામાં આવી હતી.
કલ્પના દત્તે ૧૯૪૦ માં કોલકાતા વિશ્વવિદ્યાલયમાંથી સ્નાતક થયા અને ભારતની કમ્યુનિસ્ટ પાર્ટીમાં જોડાયા. તેઓ ભારતીય સ્ટેટિસ્ટિકલ ઇન્સ્ટિટ્યૂટમાં જોડાયા, જ્યાં તેમણે નિવૃત્તિ સુધી કામ કર્યું. ૮ ફેબ્રુઆરી ૧૯૯૫ ના દિવસે તેમનું કોલકાતામાં અવસાન थयुं.

From Chittagong to AD After passing his matriculation examination in 1929, he moved to Calcutta and joined Bethune College to study for a bachelor's degree in science.
On 18 April 1930, the Chittagong Armory was raided. Kalpana Dutt joined the armed revolutionary group "Indian Republican Army, Chattogram Branch" in May 1931 under the leadership of Surya Sen. In September 1931, Surya Sen assigned Kalpana Dutt along with Pritilata Wahedar to attack the European Club in Chittagong. But a week before the attack, she was arrested during a reconnaissance operation in the area. After being released on bail, she went underground. On 17 February 1933, the police surrounded their hideout at Guerilla Village, and Surya Sen was arrested but Kalpana escaped. Finally on 19th May 1933 Kalpana Dutt was arrested. Kalpana was sentenced to life imprisonment in the second supplementary hearing of the Chittagong Armory Raid case. She was released in 1939.
Kalpana Dutt graduated from Calcutta University in 1940 and joined the Communist Party of India. He joined the Indian Statistical Institute, where he worked till his retirement. He died on 8 February 1995 in Kolkata.
